Léo de Riedmatten (LEO2R) was in born in Geneva, Switzerland on the 24th of November 1996. A few months later, his family moved to the USA for three years, followed by Brazil for another three years, before coming back to Switzerland. By the age of 6, Léo had lived in 3 countries, discovered three different cultures and spoke three languages. His unique childhood allowed him to discover his passion for drumming and percussion at the age of 6, when he joined the Conservatoire de Terre-Sainte. After playing in various school bands, Léo founded his first band in 2012; Plastic Palace. A few months later they release their eponymous debut EP, which enable them to tour around Suisse Romande and France Voisine, playing in venues such as the Caribana Festival and l'Usine à Gaz. In 2014, The Kreeks, another young band of the region, hires Léo to record drums on their debut EP. Impressed by Léo's drumming abilities, The Kreeks decided to hire him as their full time drummer. Their EP was released a few months later.
At 18 years old, Léo was already impressively experienced, having played over 100 gigs with 5 different bands, recorded and released 2 EPs, all the while being a full-time student at the International School of Geneva.
But his big break was yet to come. A few days after his 18th birthday, he was contacted by Yvan Franel, the frontman of well-known Swiss band 'Stevans'. Looking for a new drummer, he decided to hire Léo. This began the most exciting project of his life. In January 2015, Stevans hit the road for an impressive European Tour consisting of over 40 concerts in France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. Léo successfully obtained his IB diploma between touring, in May 2015, and took a gap year dedicated to making his dream of being a professional musician come true.
In late 2015, after touring had calmed down, Léo began his solo project, entitled 'LEO2R'. More than just a musical project, LEO2R aimed to group all of Léo's creative projects under the same roof: Music, Photography, Creative Writing, Art and Film.
'Anachronist (Alternate Version)' is the first song released under his solo project in early 2016. Here is what he has to say about this song: "Anachronist - one belonging to a time other than that in which one exists. This piece tells the story of a nameless character lost amidst society's cacophony, rebelling against its echelons and admitting to himself that the battle for his loved one's heart is lost. This is an alternate version of 'Anachronist', which will be the lead single of my debut EP coming later this year. Whilst the original version is eclectic and bombastic, this alternate version is stripped back, revealing the raw emotion and core of this piece."
Anachronist was released as LEO2R's debut single in early April. Well recieved by the public and press, Salacious Sound (Music Blog) says: "Cinematic from the start, Swiss producer LEO2R shows off a well-rounded musical game displaying live instrumentations, vocals, funky synth-centric productions in his latest single “Anachronist”. For all the late rising people out there, you might just wind up staying in bed with LEO2R’s dark dream-pop beckoning you away from real life."
Misunderstood is the second single to be released, in late May. Here is what he has to say about it: "'Misunderstood' is the most personal track I’ve written to this day. And you guessed it, it’s about love. Nothing too joyful though, this song is about a very complicated relationship I had with a girl that was mostly based around on-screen conversations. It’s about me letting this girl into my head, allowing her to consume me and thinking we knew each other, that we had a connection, but all of it was fiction, it was a world I created in my head. A perfect image that lived inside me and wore her face."
His debut EP, featuring four brand new songs, will be released later this year.
