Music has always been the largest root of my soul, from the early ages of banging on pots and pans, to playing drums in the swiss band 'Stevans', I'm proud to unveil my solo project. Disguised in eclectic sounding synths and drum beats, compelling lyrics about personal experiences, fictional characters and today's world are brought to life by sombre melodies.
Anachronist - one belonging to a time other than that in which one exists. This piece tells the story of a nameless character lost amidst society's cacophony, rebelling against its echelons and admitting to himself that the battle for his loved one's heart is lost.
This is an alternate version of 'Anachronist', which will be the lead single of my debut EP coming later this year. Where the original version is eclectic and bombastic, this alternate version is stripped back, revealing the raw emotion and core of this piece.
ANACHRONIST (Alternate Version)
Where to begin with this one. 'Misunderstood' is a darker, more ambient and progressive track than it’s A-Side, ‘Anachronist’. It serves as 'Anachronist'’s B-Side for the simple reason that they were both written around the same period, and consist of the starting point for my solo project, showing two very different sides of my writing. 'Misunderstood' is the most personal track I’ve written to this day. And you guessed it, it’s about love. Nothing too joyful though, this song is about a very complicated relationship I had with a girl that was mostly based around on-screen conversations. It’s about me letting this girl into my head, allowing her to consume me and thinking we knew each other, that we had a connection, but all of it was fiction, it was a world I created in my head. A perfect image that lived inside me and wore her face. This song is about my struggle to face the reality of this broken relationship. In this modern era, so much of communication passes through a screen, and this fundamentally warps it, without us even becoming aware of it. The lack of human contact and the rate at which we’ve become so dependent on technology is alarming, and has to change. I acknowledge the fact that I am a victim, like many others, of its powerful grasp and control over our lives, I can’t help but be reminiscent of a time where physical human interaction was the primary means of communication. We’ve all become overly paranoid, analyzing and processing a gigantic amount of information that is too much for our brains to possibly take away anything useful from it. This is a heavily emotional song and I hope I succeeded in communicating these emotions through to my listeners, and engendering a reaction in them.
Hi everyone, or no one, it doesn’t matter. I’m writing this little text as a musical statement to accompany the release of my first single, ‘Anachronist’. Although for most of you this feels like the beginning of my journey, it’s been a hell of a long ride already. I started working on 'Anachronist' over 9 months ago, and it’s taken this long to reach a stage where I’m proud enough to share it with you. In January, along with the unveiling of my solo project, LEO2R, I also released an alternate version of ‘Anachronist’. This alternate version is stripped back, leaving only the vocals and a soft piano, with a few synths on the chorus. This was done to reveal the emotional core of the song, which may be less obvious in this new bombastic and eclectic version. The story remains the same – Anachronist, one belonging to a time other than that in which one exists. Breaking free of society’s shackles, abandoning civilization. This piece tells the story of a nameless character lost amidst society’s cacophony, rebelling against its echelons and norms, and deploring his contradicting feelings towards it all. This song came about quite naturally, starting with a simple but effective chord progression on the piano, followed by a melody and lyrics, and developing into a full blown out synthpop song. So much work was put into this creation and I hope it is reflected in the final product. A music video has been released as a visual statment to accompany the song. You can view it under the 'Video' seciton of this website.
'I wrote this song a few months ago, in one sitting, after getting back from an extended holiday. The instrumental production and lyrics are very raw, which reflects the state of mind I was in at the time. Although I've been planning to release an EP of 4 songs (which are very close to being ready) for a long time, I've decided to release this newest song first, as it feels right. My friend Kobi, based in Liverpool, recorded the amazing guitars you hear at the end!'
OHOTA - Killing The Night EP (Feat. LEO2R)
I came into contact with Ohota, a promising producer from Russia, via a mutual friend. He was looking for various singers to record a melodic line for a song he was working on. The idea was to combine many different singers to create a choir effect. After sending in my vocals, for which he took a liking, I asked him if he would be interested in remixing Anachronist (Ohota Remix coming soon). A few months later, I received a message from him saying he was working on his first EP and he wanted me to sing on it. Here is the result of this special online collaboration (we've yet to meet face to face): 'Killing The Night', 'Eat My Soul' & 'To Heaven'. This genre is very different from the one I normally work in, which made it a very exciting experience.
'Haunt' is the first single off my debut EP which will be released in just over a month. It's been a long wait but I'm really happy with these new songs and so excited to finally share them with you! 'Haunt' is a song about my dreams, as expressed in the first line 'It's a dream I'm getting tricked again'. Since I can remember, I've had very vivid dreams. Sometimes so intense that the emotions I felt in the dream would last for days after I woke up. Dreaming about your feelings being reciprocated by the one you love can be very damaging and harmful. This song explains the confusion between the feelings from my dreams and the feelings in reality.
'Delusion' is the lead single off my debut EP which will be out in a month. I've had very vivid dreams for as long as I can remember, and I remember a lot. I can still picture every detail about a nightmare I had when I was 5 years old, being chased by snakes in a supermarket before falling in a fire pit filled with wolves. But through my adolescence, after having cured my fear of wolves, my dreams started shifting to what all men must dream of: women. I was in love with a girl who wasn't in love with me. Classic. But in my dreams we were together, in my dreams we loved each other. The pain I felt every morning when I woke up and understood it was just another dream was heart-wrenching. Some nights I even dreamed of being in love with other girls. Even after waking up and understanding they are just dreams, the feeling of being in love doesn't fade. It can last for hours, and sometimes even days. This is where the lyrics for 'Delusion' came about, where I directly address my subconscious, whom I hold accountable for these twisted dreams, and beg it to set me free.
